Josan Pinon

I grew up in the Philippines where a traditional cultural value under Christianity tries to prevail. From there I learned compassion and kept my family-oriented upbringing, though I questioned the hypocritical aspect and narrow mindedness in the belief system of religion in general. I am drawn to the humanistic and ironic aspects of life, and this is reflected in my photographic tableaux. The themes in my earlier work have a sweet and innocent nature, while my later work is more provocative and often questions human values and culture, at times inspired by nostalgia. I continue on my exploration and experimentation in various art making processes.
