David Alexander Colville

1920- Painter, draughtsman, printmaker, muralist. David Alexander Colville, born in Toronto. Spent his youth at St Catherines, Ontario, and Amherst, Nova Scotia. Studied at the Mount Allison University school of art with Stanley Royle. As an offical war artist he painted for the Army and Navy in the Mediterranean and in northern Europe. Taught at Mount Allison Unversity, 1946-1963; University of Alberta, Edmonton, 1965; visiting artist at University of California, Santa Cruz, 1967-1968; and with Kunstlerprogramm, West Berlin, 1971. Has made a number of mural decorations. One work includes mural The History of Mount Allison, Mount Allison University, 1948.
