Wendi Copeland
Wendi Copeland's series of investigations into the essence of paint attempt to capture the rhythmic interplay between organic and planned visual forms and the seemly chaotic and controlled arrangement of colourful layers of paint creating a harmony of opposing forces and an optical tension between two and three-dimensional space.
The process of animating paint, moving it across raw canvas, allowing it to form congealed pools, which often fall over the edge, emphasizes the flow and fluidity of the medium and the artist's interest in the materiality of paint. The playful and complex vitality of repetitive forms, colours and undulating layers of paint parallels the patterns in music and the intermix of space and time relationships in film.
