Florence Carlyle

1864-1923 Painter. Florence Carlyle, born at Galt, Ontario. Studied in Woodstock, Ontario; with William Bouguereau, A.J. Delecluse, and Julius Rolshoven, Paris, and with Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury at Academie Julian, Paris, 1890-1896. Taught at Havergal College in Toronto, 1896. A.R.C.A. in 1897 (re-elected 1912). Lived at Woodstock and London, Ontario. Painted in the mountains of British Columbia in 1897. Later she lived in Toronto and New York (1899). Travelled in France, Spain, and Italy, and settled in England in 1912. Contributor to literary reviews from 1918. Did strenous war work during the First World War and stopped painting. Died at Crowborough, Sussex.
